Born in 1993 in Tehran, Iran, Anahita Shahamati is a multidisciplinary artist and physician, currently living and working in London, UK. She has exhibited her paintings, large installations, sculptures and art objects in solo and group exhibitions.
Anahita’s practice is an ever evolving interplay of experimentation that is coupled with her first-hand knowledge of biological processes and a fascination with discovering new methods to utilize the emotive and expressive qualities of a wide range of materials, such as polyurethane foam, upholstery foam, paint and most recently polymer clay.
“The field of design provides me with the groundwork in which I cultivate my relationship with new mediums and discover the medium’s natural vocabulary.”
This process also includes a hunt for objects and materials; recycled, ready-mades and discarded fragments. It is an endeavor to carefully meditate on the feel of objects and conjuring their organic potential.
“A heterogeneous selection of elements that are obsessively collected from nature, bazaars and the studio, are the main resource for my work. Elements that have captured my imagination because of their intriguing character, scientific qualities and fresh possibilities.”
Anahita studied Medicine at SBMU in Tehran and was graduated as a general practitioner in 2019. During the long course of her studies, she didn’t abandon her creative inclinations and explored through various means of expression including painting, videography, photography, interior and floral design.
After being graduated she took on her artistic aspiration more actively, followed by her first solo exhibition of art objects and sculptures a year later in 2020. Continuing in 2021 with a recent solo exhibition of paintings and installations in Tehran.
